Face it! You need Bali Hai

South Pacific

Your life is hurried…hustle here, run there, meet this deadline. Multi-tasking is a way of life. Pagers, Cell phones, text messages interrupt the little quiet we have left in our day.

in “Tales of the South Pacific.”
James Michener wrote

“I wish I could tell you about the South Pacific,” “The way it actually was. The endless ocean. The infinite specks of coral we called islands. Coconut palms nodding gracefully toward the ocean. Reefs upon which waves broke into spray, and inner lagoons, lovely beyond description.”

Most people live on a lonely island,
Lost in the middle of a foggy sea.
Most people long for another island,
One where they know they will like to be.
Bali Ha'i may call you,
Any night, any day,
In your heart, you'll hear it call you:
'Come away...Come away.' Bali Ha'I , Bali Ha'I Bali Ha'i

In 1958, actress Juanita Hall sang the hauntingly beautiful song Bali Hai, in the Rodgers and Hammerstein musical South Pacific based on Michener’s novel. Hall is best remembered for her portrayal of Bloody Mary in the movie.

The role of Bloody Mary is based on the only true-life person whom James A. Michener met in Espiritu Santo in the New Hebrides (now Vanuatu), in the South Pacific. She was Tonkinese. Tonkin, at the time, was in China, and after the French left Vietnam, that area became part of North Vietnam. She arrived in the South Pacific to work on a French plantation owner's farm.
